Late-season snow drapes the enduring Ruud Lift. I use a telephoto lens to draw the snow textures in. The scene is built from single exposures, stitched vertically to echo the lift’s height and stillness. Sun Valley, Idaho. 03.16.2025.
The Ruud Lift. Built in 1938 by the Union Pacific Railroad, this single-seat chairlift is the oldest standing ski lift in the world and part of the very first generation of ski lifts. It was the third lift in a pioneering series, following the Dollar and Proctor Mountain lifts (1936–37). The original 1936 lift is now preserved at the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum in Michigan.
